Saladin Citadel ceremony marks Jaecoo's official launch in Egypt, with the J8 at EGP 2,650,000

Ezz Elarab Elsewedy Investments (ESI) held a ceremony at the Saladin Citadel for the official launch of Jaecoo in the Egyptian market. Leaders of the Ezz Elarab and Elsewedy groups attended, along with representatives of Chery Group from China.

Jaecoo starts in Egypt with SUVs in different sizes: the J5, the J7 in petrol and hybrid versions, and the seven-seat J8 with a high-performance hybrid system. ESI is also preparing to launch the Omoda brand in Egypt soon.

• J5: EGP 1,195,000 to 1,325,000.

Jaecoo J5

The J5 is a compact crossover. It has a 1.5-litre four-cylinder turbo petrol engine with 147 horsepower and 210 Nm of torque. It comes with a CVT automatic gearbox and front-wheel drive.

Jaecoo J7

The J7 is larger. The petrol version has a 1.6-litre turbo engine with 184 horsepower and 275 Nm. The plug-in hybrid version has 279 horsepower and a range of up to 1215 km.

Jaecoo J8

The J8 is the brand's largest car in Egypt. It comes in one trim, Flagship AWD, as a plug-in hybrid with a stated total of up to 600 horsepower and 915 Nm of torque. It has all-wheel drive and three rows of seats for seven passengers.

The system pairs a 1.5-litre petrol engine with three motors. The battery is 34.46 kWh. It supports fast charging from 30% to 100% in about 25 minutes. V2L lets the battery power external devices at up to 6.6 kW. The car also has CDC adaptive suspension and a 70-litre fuel tank.

The J8 is 4,820 mm long, 1,930 mm wide and 1,710 mm high, with a 2,820 mm wheelbase.

A two-tone roof costs EGP 25,000 extra, and premium colours add EGP 30,000.

The warranty is 7 years or 250,000 km. The engine is covered for 10 years or 1,000,000 km. The battery and electrical systems are covered for 8 years or 160,000 km.
