Reading a Cerato listing correctly

The Cerato name has been used on more than one generation, so the model year in the listing tells you more than the badge does, but even the year does not tell you what equipment the car has. Do not infer the trim from the badge or the year: read the seller's description, and if the listing is vague, ask for the exact trim name and a full list of features before you compare its asking price with other cars. Ask for photos of the dashboard and interior as well, since they often answer more questions than the text.

What to inspect on a used Cerato

Start with the paperwork: confirm the chassis number matches and the licence is current, ask to see the ownership documents, and ask the seller to explain their position to sell the car, whether owner, showroom, authorised dealer or agent with a power of attorney. Then walk around the car in daylight looking for mismatched paint, panel gaps or replaced lights that hint at accident repair. On the test drive, check that the gearbox shifts smoothly, that there are no warning lights, that the steering tracks straight and that the suspension is quiet over bumps. Ask for the service history and how the car was used. If you are not comfortable judging the mechanics yourself, arrange an independent inspection before agreeing on anything.
