Private use versus working cars

The Sunny is a familiar sight in Egypt both as a family car and as a working car for taxi and ride-hailing use, so the same model year can arrive at very different levels of wear. Ask the seller directly how the car was used and by how many people, and treat the mileage on the odometer as one piece of the story rather than the whole of it. A worn steering wheel, pedals and driver's seat, and a rear cabin that looks more used than the front, are common tells that a car spent its life carrying passengers for a living.

What to look at before you agree a price

Check that the air conditioning cools properly at idle in traffic, since that is where it will spend much of its time, and that the gearbox engages cleanly without hesitation. Look underneath for damage from potholes and speed bumps, inspect the tyres for uneven wear that can point to alignment or suspension problems, and make sure every light and electrical item works. Ask for service records and confirm the paperwork and licence are in order. What a Sunny will cost you to keep running depends on the individual car in front of you, not on the model name, so ask a workshop for a model-specific estimate of servicing and any repairs the inspection turns up before you agree on a price.
