Al Nasr Automotive Manufacturing is preparing to start assembling Chinese Geely new energy cars in Egypt. Managing director Dr. Nabil Hammad said the start is planned for the second quarter of 2027, with initial investments of EGP 400 million.
Hammad spoke on the sidelines of the launch event for the new Dongfeng Mage, which is described as the first electric car assembled in Egypt.
What the plan covers
The initial plan is to assemble 4 Geely new energy models in Egypt. More models could be added later, depending on how local and nearby market needs develop, and on export plans.
In August, Al Nasr signed a memorandum of understanding with Geely and Abou Ghaly Motors to assemble Geely NEV cars locally.
Who does what
- Al Nasr: provides the facilities for the project and makes the required changes to the production lines.
- Abou Ghaly Motors: invests in equipping the factory, leads the project and follows its execution with Geely. It also coordinates marketing, sales, after-sales service and export.
- Geely: gives technical support, plans for the production line and assembly set changes, and helps set a strategy for localising the industry and qualifying local suppliers. It also applies its quality standards to production.
Wider target
Hammad said Al Nasr aims to reach an annual capacity of 28,000 cars, across Jetour, JAC, Dongfeng and Geely models. He added that the company is also studying building cars under its own brand.
The cooperation is described as a new step toward strengthening local manufacturing of new energy cars, raising the local content share and developing the supplier base. It also opens chances to export Egyptian-made cars abroad in future.
